Through this commission, Chinese fashion designer Shuting Qiu reinterprets the symbolism of the snake in a monumental tapestry. Inspired by Chinese brocade and embroidery traditions, her creation embodies renewal, transformation, and cultural dialogue.
Guided Somexing Artistic, the project established a fluid exchange between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design. It connects Hennessy’s French heritage with Qiu’s vibrant visual language. The result is a textile artwork that translates brand legacy into a living, enduring expression of artistry and meaning.
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
She Blossoms in the Sky
Entitled She Blossoms in the Sky, this large-scale double-sided tapestry combines hand-drawn motifs, jacquard weaving, Suzhou embroideries, and sequins. These layers shape a richly textured landscape of floral forms and abstract snake patterns.
Across the woven surface, a serpent winds gracefully from one side to the other, carrying with it the blooming patterns of the fields it crosses. The snake becomes a symbol of renewal and positive transformation, an emblem linking Hennessy’s roots along the Charente River with Qiu’s own cultural heritage.
Through this collaborative process, traditional textile savoir-faire and contemporary aesthetics merge to create a work that celebrates craftsmanship, identity, and artistic innovation.
