The project reflects on the intimate link between memory, fabric, and emotion, with Duoduo Huang using velvet to reveal hidden images and create a palimpsest of memories where emotions resurface over time. Framed within Maison Margiela’s conceptual universe and shaped by Somexing’s curatorial guidance, the commission establishes a subtle dialogue between brand philosophy and contemporary textile practice.
Duoduo Huang has created Memories Imprinted, a textile installation composed of five felt imprinted artworks. Drawing inspiration from archival photographs and her own recollections, Huang transfers negative images onto felt, transforming them into evocative, tactile works. The main artwork where Chinese New Year Memory evokes festive recollections is accompanied by four smaller pieces—including Vacuum Rose, inspired by Maison Margiela’s REPLICA fragrances—which evoke themes of love and remembrance, creating a poetic dialogue between memory, scent, and textile.
Photographic artist Duoduo Huang explores memory and intimacy through installations that merge photography, textiles, and technology. She graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in China. She is currently studying at the Royal College of Art, where she is affiliated with the Sculpture (MA) programme. Her practice is driven by imagery and the body, with a focus on graphic and symbolic forms. She often works with time-based media, including print, video, and installation. Her artistic perspective lends itself to creative brand collaborations, illustrated by Memories Imprinted with Maison Margiela Fragrances. Here, an installation-led approach carries narrative and emotion through material and image.
