Cosmic Rose by Wang Kaifang
For Lancôme’s Art of Absolue Exhibition 2023, Somexing Artistic invited Chinese artist Wang Kaifang to create a tailor-made sculpture inspired by the Absolue Perpetual Rose, the emblem of Lancôme’s vision of eternal beauty.
Merging Eastern classical philosophy with Western modern technology, Wang Kaifang envisioned an arched doorway of roses, defined by airiness, light, and grace. As visitors walk through this wind tunnel of roses, they experience a symbolic passage through time — a sensorial journey into Lancôme’s timeless universe, where nature and innovation coexist in harmony.
Cosmic Rose
Entitled Gateway of Roses, Wang Kaifang’s sculpture reimagines the rose as both a symbolic threshold and an experiential space. Composed as an arched passageway, the artwork invites viewers to step into a luminous corridor animated by air and light — an environment that evokes movement, purity, and timelessness.
The front of the installation radiates vitality and allure, reflecting the brilliance of the Absolue Perpetual Rose, while the back reveals the traces of creation, exposing the intricate structure and craftsmanship behind the illusion of effortless beauty. This interplay between surface and structure, appearance and effort, mirrors the essence of perpetual beauty — one achieved through dedication, innovation, and artistry.
