Across the Universe of Time by Luo Daishi
For Lancôme’s Art of Absolue Exhibition 2023, Somexing Artistic commissioned Chinese artist Luo Daishi, a leading voice of the new generation, to create an immersive installation that merges scientific experimentation and poetic imagination.
Luo Daishi draws inspiration from Lancôme Absolue’s pioneering spirit and philosophy of perpetual renewal, exploring the invisible rhythm of time, growth, and transformation. Through her self-developed process called Transformation, the artist uses transparent polymer materials to “freeze” the evolving chemistry of copper-based colors, cultivating what she describes as “fruits of time.”
Under Somexing Artistic’s curatorial guidance, Across the Universe of Time becomes a meditation on beauty as an evolving force, shaped by both nature and technology. The project captures the spirit of Lancôme Absolue — where innovation, emotion, and the art of transformation converge into a timeless expression of creativity.
Across the Universe of Time
Entitled Across the Universe of Time, Luo Daishi’s installation transforms the exhibition space into a colossal copper-colored ecosystem, where art and science coexist in a delicate state of evolution. At its center rises a 2.4-meter-tall conical incubator, surrounded by six wall-mounted petri dishes, each displaying different stages of “color life” — an organic cycle of creation, decay, and rebirth.
The installation invites viewers to wander through a universe of copper and light, where beauty and biology intertwine. It is both a laboratory of imagination and a poetic meditation on regeneration, mirroring Lancôme Absolue’s vision of perpetual beauty — timeless, self-renewing, and ever in motion.

Luo Daishi
Luo Daishi is an interdisciplinary artist with a background in product design. She is devoted to probing into a future of complete synergy between nature and humanity by nurturing works with copper as the medium. In recent years, Daishi Luo has continued to work with “copper”, focusing on the creative research of biology in materials. The fusion of contemporary science and the design material behavior allows the material to grow spontaneously in the creation.
In 2017 she won the China National Young Art Talents, and in 2019 she won the project support of the Shenzhen Creative Charity Foundation. Her work has been exhibited in Milan Design Week (2016), the 56th Bienanale di Venezia, Art Asia (2016), and etc.
