For the Art of Absolue 2023 exhibition, Somexing Artistic invited Chinese artist Jiang Zhi to present Love Letters, a poetic series that explores the fragility and endurance of human emotion through the imagery of burning flowers. Known for his poetic imagery and use of light and fire, Jiang Zhi captures the fleeting beauty of emotion in a moment suspended between life and death.
The series resonates with Lancôme’s vision of timeless beauty and emotional depth, echoing the brand’s philosophical pursuit of “eternality.” Under Somexing Artistic’s curatorial direction, Love Letters found new resonance within the exhibition context, revealing how contemporary art can illuminate universal experiences of love, loss, and rebirth.
Entitled Love Letters, the series by Jiang Zhi depicts flaming roses and flowers frozen at the moment of their most vivid combustion — an image where passion and impermanence coexist.
In the composition, old ceramic vessels cradle the burning flowers, serving as silent witnesses to emotion — containers of both memory and transformation. Through a precise balance of light and color, Jiang Zhi translates the language of love into visual poetry.
Presented by Somexing Artistic for Lancôme’s Art of Absolue exhibition, Love Letters bridges cultures and emotions, offering a meditation on beauty’s ephemerality and the eternal nature of love.
Born in 1971 and based in Beijing, Jiang Zhi is a contemporary artist known for his diverse range of creative forms and content.
