About the Artist
Cai Guo-Qiang is a major figure in contemporary art, internationally acclaimed for his singular visual language built around gunpowder and controlled explosions. A recipient of numerous prestigious awards and exhibited in leading institutions worldwide, he has developed over several decades a deeply original body of work that blends visual art, performance, and spirituality.
In recent years, Cai has begun exploring artificial intelligence as a new creative territory. He works with cAI™, an AI developed by his studio, conceived as a tool for artistic research and exploration in service of a new generation of works.
To mark its 90th anniversary and celebrate New Year 2025, Lancôme invited artist Cai Guo-Qiang to create a unique artwork inspired by its universal emblem: the rose. Entitled Paris Rose, this spectacular creation embodies the union between the timeless symbolism of the rose and a radically contemporary artistic vision.
Somexing had the honor of initiating this collaboration by introducing Lancôme to Cai Guo-Qiang’s artistic universe — in particular, his series of floral works, whose sensitivity and expressive power resonated strongly with the Maison’s identity. This artistic connection laid the foundation for a project built on the dialogue between two distinct yet complementary languages: that of art and that of luxury.
The project was then developed and produced by Lancôme and Publicis Luxe, as part of an exclusive artistic activation combining technological innovation, narrative power, and a celebration of heritage.
